Welcome to The Cultured Baby

I’m Brandi Wiatrak – a feisty “telling it like it is” mom who helps mamas to navigate motherhood, maintain their mental health, and live their best life.

The Cultured Baby is a parenting, mental health advocating, mom humor haven that helps moms master motherhood. It is for women who are trying to do it all. Women who often lack a village. It is for women who want their families to stay cultured and in the know.

We will gab about the funny situations we encounter as moms, the latest research on raising your children, cultural activities for your family, and hacks to simplify home life.

My writing has been featured on Her View From Home, Mother.ly, and TODAY Parenting. And, because I can talk until the sun goes down, you can hear me discussing tips on how to raise a cultured kid, and traveling as a blended family, on The Indulgent Life podcast.

The Fam Bam

Before we get too much farther, let’s meet the rest of the rock stars keeping me laughing, and on my toes, each day.

Jason: Awesome dad & coach who eats a panzerotti dam near every week. He’s the ultimate handyman and rocks at car karaoke.

Chris: Fun-loving 14-year-old stepson who loves to crack jokes and share memes 24/7. He’s a super athlete and Violet’s BFF.

Violet: Curious almost two-year-old daughter who laughs a lot, watches “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” every day, prefers being naked, obsessed with Cookie Monster, and enjoys shouting MA-MA and UH-OH every few minutes.

My Story in a Nutshell

I’m sort of obsessed with everything related to travel, adventure, and weird. After trekking in Mexico in my early twenties, I was inspired to become a travel agent. After nearly eight years of researching and booking travel for others, I wanted to see more of the world.

I climbed the Pyramids of Giza. Ate with nutty Irishmen in the Isles, then I moved to Madrid, Spain where sangria, croquetas, and español melodies flowed like the Mississippi River.

Once the current slowed, I returned to the city by the bay, San Francisco, California.

It wasn’t long, however, before I felt stuck in a rut. The crazy rat-race was starting to wear on me. I decided to jump on the road in my old pick-up truck, armed with only a few possessions: books, clothes, and dark chocolate (no joke).

A week later, I arrived in the land of deep-dish pizza, hot dogs sans ketchup, and funny accents: Chicago!

I applied to grad school, got my acceptance letter, then worked my arse off while working full-time in hell’s trenches.

Reminiscent of a blockbuster movie, I soon fell in love with a chivalrous single father (who also LOVED to travel), and got hitched.

Then one day, the unthinkable happened.

I became a mother.

And …the comment floodgates opened.

“You’ll finally have to slow down with all that traveling?”

“Wait, YOU are going to be a mother??”

“This is going to be hilarious to watch!”

The Cultured Baby was born to revel with mothers about the messy, fun, and hilarious journey through motherhood with the mission of staying sane, happy, and cultured.

And, also to prove that YOU CAN still maintain your sense of self and achieve your goals with kiddos in tow.

With blood, milk, and lots of tears, I even managed to finish my thesis (with a screaming baby on the boob) to obtain my graduates degree in Liberal Arts and Science.
