Welcome to The Cultured Baby
I’m Brandi Wiatrak – a feisty “telling it like it is” mom who helps mamas to navigate motherhood, maintain their mental health, and live their best life.
I started The Cultured Baby to help moms who are trying to master it all. For the moms who could use a little encouragement. For the moms who often lack a village. For the moms who like to laugh at themselves and the world. And, lastly, for mamas who want to stay cultured on their parenting journey.
I gab about the rough, the raw, and the hilarious. I offer tips on how to raise good happy kids, how to maintain your mental health and sense of self, and also feature feel good news that mimics a virtual hug.
My words have been featured on The Today Show, Love What Matters, Her View From Home, Motherly, and published in the book, In the Trenches: Hilarious Tales of Parenting Gone Awry.
I’m also the co-host of the podcast, Mom After Hours. Mom After Hours holds candid conversations on taboo topics related to motherhood, relationships, work-life, wellness, and more. Episodes are released every other Thursday and run 50-60 minutes. It is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and wherever podcasts are found. The Fam Bam
Before we get too much farther, let’s meet the rest of the rock stars keeping me laughing, and on my toes, each day.
Jason: Awesome dad & coach who eats a panzerotti dam near every week. He’s the ultimate handyman and rocks at car karaoke.
Chris: Fun-loving 14-year-old stepson who loves to crack jokes and share memes 24/7. He’s a super athlete and Violet’s BFF.
Violet: Curious two-year-old daughter who laughs a lot, watches “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” every day, prefers being naked, obsessed with Cookie Monster, and enjoys shouting “mama” and “no” every few minutes.
My Story in a Nutshell
I’m sort of obsessed with everything related to travel, adventure, and weird. After trekking in Mexico in my early twenties, I was inspired to become a travel agent. After nearly eight years of researching and booking travel for others, I wanted to see more of the world.
I climbed the Pyramids of Giza. Ate with nutty Irishmen in the Isles, then I moved to Madrid, Spain where sangria, croquetas, and español melodies flowed like the Mississippi River.
Once the current slowed, I returned to the city by the bay, San Francisco, California.
It wasn’t long, however, before I felt stuck in a rut. The crazy rat-race was starting to wear on me. I decided to jump on the road in my old pick-up truck, armed with only a few possessions: books, clothes, and dark chocolate (no joke).
A week later, I arrived in the land of deep-dish pizza, hot dogs sans ketchup, and funny accents: Chicago!
I applied to grad school, got my acceptance letter, then worked my arse off navigating hell’s trenches at my full-time job.
Reminiscent of a blockbuster movie, I soon fell in love with a chivalrous single father, and got hitched shotgun style.
Then one day, the unthinkable happened.
I became a mother.
And …the comment floodgates opened.
“You’ll finally have to slow down with all that traveling?”
“Wait, YOU are going to be a mother??”
“This is going to be hilarious to watch!”
And, just like that, ready or not, The Cultured Baby was born.
